The Garden Has a Dashboard Now
Feeder camera counts, soil moisture, and a light that turns red when the hummingbird feeder needs refilling.
Home Assistant collects the feeder camera's species counts alongside soil moisture and a few temperature probes, which means the garden reports on itself.
The genuinely useful automation is the least clever one: a small lamp by the back door turns amber when the feeder sugar level is estimated low, based purely on visit counts since the last refill. No sensor in the feeder at all.
It has been wrong twice in four months, both times after a storm kept the birds away for a day.
